How serious is the market share loss of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer?

Analysis – Last month, Microsoft’s market share in the browser dropped
below 70% for the first time in eight years, while Mozilla broke the
20% barrier for the first time in its history. Initial data sets
provided by Net Applications suggest that the Internet Explorer will
drop once again significantly in December to below 69% and Mozilla will
climb above 21%. IE8 is just around the corner, but current market
share data suggests that Microsoft has no effective tool to stop the
bleeding at this time…

Opinion: A look at television history, from analog to digital

 In 1927 a man by the name of Philo Farnsworth patented an early version of the cathode receptor, a device which would change mankind forever. It allowed television signals to be encoded, broadcast through the air, and reassembled on a display. While similar competing inventions existed, Farnsworth’s “Image dissector” patent was upheld in court, and he is largely credited as the man responsible for giving us television. That was just over 81 years ago, meaning many of our (great) grandparents…

Warner Music videos removed from YouTube

If you are used to watching your favorite music videos via YouTube,
then you might be surprised to find that task is going to become much
more difficult. Warner Music said in a statement that it “simply cannot
accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording
artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.”

Intel ships 160 GB solid state disk drives

Intel kept its promise and apparently has begun shipping 160 GB SSDs.
The new 160 GB drive will join the 80 GB 2.5” model in Intel’s
mainstream product line.

Recently, YouTube released their high-definition video option. They have now created new landing pages in attempt to make finding popular video categories simple.

Opinion: People still have pen pals and keep in touch via snail mail

 Yesterday, I received one of the most beautiful packages I’ve ever seen. It was sent from a pen pal in Maine. Yes, I said it pen pal. In all of my social networking I have come across individuals much like myself who have a strong desire to send snail mail.

Apple acquires 3.6% of Imagination to secure graphics tech for future iPhones

Apple has taken a 3.6% stake in UK-based Imagination Technologies
Group, a company which is known for its graphics technology blueprints
that served for example as the foundation for Intel graphics chips in
the past. Imagination also confirmed that an “international
electronics systems company,” mentioned in its August press release,
that secured a “multi-year, multi-use license” of its SGX/VXD graphics
and video IP cores is Apple. The news is considered as yet another
indication that Apple in fact is designing its own hardware platforms.
